Up With The Peanut Butter
- The Calgary Flames were but a puff of smoke to start the year. Jarome Iginla and Daymond Langkow have skyrocketed up the poolie rankings in their last three games, though, popping seven and six points, respectively. Langkow had a trio of goals in those three games, giving him a league-leading seven on the season.
- The Kings' Anze Kopitar had a three-point night against Calgary Oct. 18, vaulting him into a tie for sixth place overall with 11 points in eight games. The fantasy super sophomore has also notched three powerplay goals and one shorthanded marker.
- Philadelphia's Mike Richards has proven his worth on a revamped Flyers' squad. After a dismal, injury-marred 06-07 campaign, the third-year veteran has four goals and four assists in six games. Feisty goalie Martin Biron has posted two straight shutouts. Both Richards and Biron are outstanding depth picks.
Smoke and Mirrors
- While Iginla and Langkow have kept themselves in coach Mike Keenan's good graces, rumor has it that Alex Tanguay is on the outs. His fantasy value is still respectable with six assists in seven games, but he may be on his way to Montreal - which could be a good thing. Stay tuned.
- Capitals' Michael Nylander has given poolies little to get stoked up about early in the season. Washington's big free agent signing does have four points (two goals, two assists) in six games, but is a minus-5.
Floating on the Perimeter
- Darcy Tucker may be a fan favorite in Toronto, but the Maple Leafs' veteran has been a fantasy disappointment. With ample powerplay time, he has a paltry one goal and four points in eight games.
- Phoenix Coyotes' captain Shane Doan has not helped put the bite into the Desert Dogs' offence. Four assists and a minus-1 rating are dismal numbers for the rugged star. His two penalty minutes suggest he is not playing with enough sandpaper, either.
- Time may be catching up with Devils' superstar netminder Martin Brodeur. His goals against average is a mediocre 3.51, save percentage at a lowly .865 and he has just two wins in six starts. With a thin defense in front of him, don't look for strong improvement there.
