One brilliant spring can be the exclamation point on a sensational Hall of Fame run when discussing the likes of Roy, Yzerman, Lidstrom, Stevens, Sakic, Gretzky, Orr, Lafleur or Mario.

For others such as Ranford, Ward, Vernon, Hextall, Goring and Claude Lemieux, it was an unforgettable spring that helped define a career.

For those NHL teams with no hope of seeing playoff hockey this spring, attention now turns to the which player they will call on the stage this summer as their selection at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Of course, depending on how the balls fall in the draft lottery, no one can really foresee how it is all going to play out on draft day. If a team is looking for a shut-down defenseman, odds are a playmaking center won't even be on the radar.

It's a short season when it comes to your fantasy picks for the playoffs, so the quickest way to rack up some points is to make sure you have the right guy between the pipes.

Sounds obvious, I know, but in order to maximize points in wins and shutouts, poolies need to look long and hard at how goalies performed during the regular season, what kind of team they have in front of them and just how deep that team is expected to go into the post-season.
