NHL playoff fantasy pools full of surprises

They've hit the half way pole in the 2008 Stanley Cup playoffs and just four horses remain in the hunt as they head for home.

Some things just don't seem right here. Marty Turco is in Conn-Smythe form. Ditto Martin Biron. Marian Hossa is scoring. Johan Franzen has more points than Zetterberg and Datsyuk - and, no, that is not a typo.

What's next? Chris Simon wins the Lady Byng?

NHL fantasy points rest with goalies in playoffs

It's a short season when it comes to your fantasy picks for the playoffs, so the quickest way to rack up some points is to make sure you have the right guy between the pipes.

Sounds obvious, I know, but in order to maximize points in wins and shutouts, poolies need to look long and hard at how goalies performed during the regular season, what kind of team they have in front of them and just how deep that team is expected to go into the post-season.

Kane, as it turns out, is indeed able but he's got some company in the race for the Calder.

On a hot muggy June night in Toronto sometime this summer, odds are tilted in Chicago Blackhawks' superstar Patrick Kane's favor he will be named the Calder trophy winner as the NHL's most outstanding rookie.
